A Loss Like No Other

Your Pet Deserves the Same Dignity

The bond between a person and their pet is one of the most unconditional forms of love. Losing a companion animal — a dog who greeted you every morning, a cat who slept beside you for fifteen years, a horse who carried you — is a grief that deserves to be honoured.

At Silmaril, we treat every pet's material with the same care and reverence as a human loved one. The process is identical. The protocol is identical. The result is a real, certified diamond that carries the literal carbon of your companion's life.

There is no greater tribute.

How Pet Fur Becomes a Diamond

THE 5-STEP PROCESS
01

Collect Your Pet's Fur

Contact us to begin. We send a secure collection kit to any NZ address. You return approximately 20g of fur — from a brush, groomer's clippings, or a saved lock. Fur collected before or after your pet's passing is equally suitable.

02

Life-ID Assignment

Your pet's sample arrives at our Auckland facility and is immediately assigned a unique biological Life-ID. It is logged, labelled, and held in its own dedicated container — full traceability from this moment forward.

03

Carbon Purification

Pet fur is rich in keratin, a protein whose structural backbone is carbon — the same element that forms diamonds. We extract and purify carbon from the fur to 99.99% purity. This is the essence from which your pet's diamond will grow.

04

HPHT Crystal Growth — ~50 Days

The purified carbon enters our High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) chamber — one chamber, one pet, always. Over approximately 50 days, the carbon atoms bond into a genuine diamond crystal. Your pet's material, and no one else's.

05

Cutting, Setting & Delivery

The raw diamond is cut, polished, and set into your chosen piece. GIA or IGI certification is available on request. The finished jewellery and any remaining fur are returned to you by insured courier, anywhere in New Zealand.

Frequently Asked Questions

PET MEMORIAL DIAMONDS — EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Can you turn pet hair into a diamond in New Zealand?

Yes. Silmaril transforms pet fur — dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, and other animals — into certified, lab-grown memorial diamonds using HPHT technology. Prices start from NZ$1,980. Nationwide service from our Auckland studio.

What types of pets can have their fur turned into a diamond?

Any animal with fur or hair containing keratin can be used. Dogs, cats, horses, and rabbits are the most common. Contact us if you're unsure whether your specific pet's fur is suitable — we're happy to advise.

How much pet fur is needed?

Approximately 20 grams of pet fur — roughly what a medium-sized dog sheds over two grooming sessions, or what can be collected over time from a brush. The exact amount may vary depending on the diamond carat size. Any fur not used in the carbon extraction process is returned to you alongside the finished diamond.

Can I use fur collected after my pet passed away?

Yes. Fur saved before or after your pet's passing works equally well. Grooming clippings, fur from a brush, or locks saved by a vet are all suitable. There is no time requirement on when the fur was collected.

How much does a pet memorial diamond cost in NZ?

From NZ$1,980 for The Guardian (18K white gold) and NZ$2,650 for The Warmth (18K yellow gold). There is no additional charge for pet fur — pricing is identical to human hair orders.

Is my pet's fur kept separate from other animals?

Absolutely. Our One Guest, One Chamber protocol applies to every order. Your pet's sample receives a unique Life-ID on arrival and is grown in a dedicated chamber. It is never mixed with any other material.

Is the pet memorial diamond a real diamond?

Yes. It is a genuine diamond — physically and chemically identical to a mined diamond. Not cubic zirconia, not moissanite. It will pass all standard gemological tests and can be certified by GIA or IGI.

How long does the pet hair to diamond process take?

Approximately 50 days from receipt of your pet's fur: carbon extraction, ~50-day HPHT crystal growth, cutting, polishing, setting, and delivery to your door.

Can I get a GIA or IGI certificate for a pet memorial diamond?

Yes. Certification by GIA or IGI is available on request. Email us to discuss certification options and current pricing.

Is the price different for a dog diamond versus a cat diamond?

No. The price is the same regardless of species — NZ$1,980 for The Guardian or NZ$2,650 for The Warmth. There is no premium or discount based on animal type.

Can I combine fur from two pets into one diamond?

No. Our One Guest, One Chamber protocol means each diamond is grown from a single individual's material only. This ensures full integrity and traceability for every stone. A separate order would be required for each pet you wish to honour.

Do you serve customers outside Auckland?

Yes. We serve all of New Zealand. We post a secure collection kit to your address nationwide and return the finished jewellery by insured courier. There is no need to visit us in person.

Why choose a NZ studio rather than an overseas provider?

Choosing Silmaril means your pet's precious fur never leaves New Zealand for processing, you avoid international shipping costs and delays, and you save up to 40–50% compared to overseas providers. You also have direct contact with our team throughout.

Honour Your Pet's Memory
