Loose Memorial Diamonds

A loose memorial diamond is the same stone as our necklaces — grown from your loved one's hair, One Guest, One Chamber — delivered unset in a velvet presentation box with its ILDA / CCIC traceability certificate. Ideal if you want a ring sized and set by your local jeweller, an addition to an heirloom piece, or a design of your own. Every loose diamond is round brilliant cut, E–H colour, VS clarity. Delivery estimate is approximately 80 days from receipt of a suitable sample, as no jewellery setting stage is required.

Larger carat weights may require more hair than our standard guidance of ~10g (human) or ~20g (pet). Once your diamond is delivered and signed for, setting work by a third-party jeweller is arranged at your discretion and is outside Silmaril's care. We are happy to suggest questions to ask your jeweller.

Diamond creation Included
The complete hair-to-diamond process — carbon extraction, 99.95%+ purification, graphitization, 35–50 day HPHT growth, cutting and grading.
Jewellery setting Included
The finished diamond — 0.5ct (The Warmth) or 1.0ct (The Guardian) — is cut, polished, and set into your chosen design in 18K white or yellow gold. No additional setting fee.
18K gold advantage Included
18K gold contains 75% pure gold. Common 14K gold contains about 58.5%, so an 18K setting contains about 28.2% more pure gold than a same-weight 14K setting before craftsmanship and finishing are considered.
Sample guidance Included
Silmaril provides sample preparation guidance before you send your hair sample.
NZ delivery Included
The finished jewellery is returned to you by insured courier to any address in New Zealand. No shipping charge regardless of your location.
Return of unused hair Included
Any hair remaining after the carbon purification stage is carefully packaged and returned to you alongside the finished diamond.
Traceability certificate Included
Every diamond is delivered with a traceability certificate from the International Life Diamond Association (ILDA) or CCIC (China Certification & Inspection Group) at no extra cost — independent documentation that your diamond was grown from your submitted sample.
GIA / IGI certification Optional extra
Gemological certification by GIA or IGI is available on request at an additional cost. Contact us for current certification pricing — it can be arranged before or after your order.

How much does a memorial diamond cost in New Zealand?

What is included in the price?

Everything you need: the full hair-to-diamond creation process, the HPHT lab-grown diamond (0.5ct or 1.0ct by design), 18K gold jewellery setting in white or yellow gold, an ILDA or CCIC traceability certificate, insured courier return delivery, and return of any unused hair. The only optional addition is GIA or IGI gemological certification.

Can I buy just the diamond without a setting?

Yes. Loose memorial diamonds are NZ$2,999 for 0.5ct and NZ$3,700 for 1.0ct. For 1.5ct or 2.0ct, email us for current pricing and timing. Each is delivered in a velvet presentation box with its ILDA or CCIC traceability certificate — ready for your own jeweller to set.

Why does a memorial diamond cost more than a regular lab-grown diamond?

Regular lab-grown diamonds are mass-produced in large batches from standard graphite, spreading the production cost across many stones. A memorial diamond is made one at a time: carbon is extracted and purified from your loved one's hair, and an entire HPHT growth chamber is dedicated to that single sample for the full growth cycle — One Guest, One Chamber — with Life-ID tracking and traceability certification. You are not paying for a generic stone; you are paying for a diamond grown from one irreplaceable source of carbon. A mass-produced diamond can be replaced. This one cannot.

Why is 18K gold more valuable than 14K gold?

18K gold contains 75% pure gold, while 14K gold contains about 58.5%. That means a same-weight 18K setting contains approximately 28.2% more pure gold than 14K. Our settings use 18K white gold or 18K yellow gold, not 14K.

Are there any hidden fees?

No. The listed price is fully all-inclusive for NZ customers — including an ILDA or CCIC traceability certificate with every diamond. The sole optional extra is GIA or IGI grading, which is available on request. Contact us for current certification pricing.

Is the price the same for human hair and pet hair?

Yes. There is no difference in price between human and pet hair orders. The Warmth is NZ$3,850 and The Guardian is NZ$4,950 for any customer, human or pet.

Are prices in NZD?

All prices are in New Zealand dollars.

Does the price include delivery?

Yes. The finished jewellery is returned by insured courier at no additional charge, anywhere in New Zealand.

Is a deposit required?

Full payment is made at the time of ordering via Stripe. If you have specific questions about payment arrangements, email [email protected] before placing your order.

How much does GIA or IGI certification cost?

Certification pricing varies with laboratory fees and the specific certificate requested. Contact us for current pricing. Certification can be arranged at any point — before or after your order is placed.
